Shin of DCS

One of my all time favourie British Bhangra Singer has to be Shin of DCS.
The band was formed in 1983
DCS = Danny, Charlie, Shin............they were the 3 original founder members of the band

Shin has a been in the bhangra scene now for 27 years and is still very very popular, he has the ability to adapt to changes in music trends over the years thats why he is still one of the top British Bhangra Artists of today. He is a very versatile singer and has an amazing voice. He has influenced many many bands and singers and DJ's over the years.

Shin is a very humble person, he is very polite and fun person to meet. The first song i remember of DCS was when Shin sang "Tenu Khol Ke Sharab Vich Pee Lama". It was a massive song back in the 80's then and still is today.
Over the years listening to Shin's voice i remember:
"Mainu Hor Pila Todi Aaj Main Peeniya" this song i remember very well in my final year at school was popular, it has a similar rhythm to Mahendra Kapoors "Loko Wadia Gandasian Naal"
"Mitran Nu Tu Patya" this is a beast of a song, i remember every party this song was a floorfiller back then with the boys after a few glasseya
"Honge Na Juda Hum" a really nice hindi track. Shins vocals are absolute magic, just goes to show how versatile he is.
"Tere Surmen Ker Matchaya" romantic Shin what a mindblowing track.
"Rab Ne Banaya Jodiya" Over the past few years this has become the most requested wedding couples song.
other tracks i can remember are:
"Glassee Toh Glasse Vajdee"
"Aa Chak Botal Daru Di"
"Bothle Sharab Diye"
"Ni Mitran Nu Char Gayi Daroo"
"O Jaan Meri Ya" with Juggy D

Shin has been involved with charity projects too, The ones i remember are the 1991/1992 charity songs for Bangladesh Storm Cyclone, and then in 2005 he organised a Tsunami charity single.

I know as an artist he has always had a busy schedule of touring, studio recording sessions and wedding/party bookings, but sometimes i wish he had taken a chance in hindi films because his voice is very hindi filmy too. I see an influence of Mohd Rafi in his style of singing.

I once watched a hindi film called Cricketer 1984....The music was credited to Shin of Birmingham, i did a search on the internet about the film and yes to my amazement it was Shin of DCS. Shin is a fantastic Bhangra singer and a talented musician.

He began his Bhangra career playing the Dhol in a band supporting the Jugnu Dancers, a Bhangra dance group based in Gravesend, and then the Gabhru Panjab De dance group in Birmingham. I'm not exactly sure of the year but this must have been around 1980, until he met up with Danny & Charlie to form DCS group 1983

Throughout Shin's career, he has picked up a trophy cabinet full of awards including
"Best Male Vocalists & Best Music Director" 1988 Pop Awards.
"Best Song 'Kangna'" at 1994 Pop Awards.
"Best Male Artist, Best Band, Best Single" 1996 Pop Awards.
"Best Live Band" 1998 Pop Awards.
"Best Male Vocalist" 2001 Pop Awards.
"Best Group" at the UK Asian Music Awards In 2005.
"Outstanding Achievement" UK Asian Music Awards for his work with DCS in 2008.
