Famous Indian Actor Dharmendra Singh Deol was born 8 December 1935 in Punjab, He is known by his first name Dharmendra.
He is an award-winning legendary Hindi film star who has appeared in more than 200 Hindi-language films. In 1997 he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Hindi cinema.
He is regarded as the Undisputed "Action King" of Hindi cinema having starred in numerous action blockbusters and is greatly considered a living legend. He is father of notable actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol & Ahana Deol.
He was the main lead of the all-time blockbuster film, Sholay (1975) and also went on to star in numerous successful Bollywood films cutting across four decades. Dharmendra has thus established himself as one of the most prominent figures of the Hindi film industry.
He was born into a Jatt Sikh family in the Kapurthala district of Punjab state to Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur. He spent his early life at village Sahnewal, Ludhiana.

On August 21, 1979 he for a short while converted to Islam, changed his name to Dilawar Khan, just to get married to actress Hema Malini, as his first wife, Prakash Kaur, refused to divorce him. In accordance with the Hindu Marriage Act it is illegal for a Hindu to get re-married when his first wife is still alive.
